I just want to start by saying thank you so much for the continual support. Recently at the Portsmouth’s Quarterly Chief’s Forum Chief Jenkins mentioned that the businesses that have been causing issues in the surrounding areas are not violating any crimes due to the fact that in a “commercial area 75 decibels is too high” and since the businesses do not surpass 55-60 they are not violating any crimes. We need to get this place re-zoned. It’s not fair that on top of the police being employed by that business causing all the problems that we have to also deal with the fact that they would rather that business do well during hours past 2 AM than the livelihood of the residents of the area. People who have lived here well before that business came around are being cast to the side. Check the municipal code of Portsmouth, it states in Section 3.403 of Noise Control that Any Loud Device used at an unreasonable time or for a duration of an unreasonable period of time is in fact a violation and that the police have the right and duty to uphold that as law. Why do we deal with a situation where a residential area isn’t treated right? Why are we cast to the side?
From my understanding of a situation at the business in question is that in November of last year (2024) a man came into that same business and was kicked out and came right back with two guns and was arrested. Yet another code violation: “It shall be unlawful for any person in the city to keep, maintain or operate, for himself or for any other person or as an officer of or agent for any corporation, association, club, lodge or other organization, or under the guise of any corporation, association, club, lodge or other organization, any disorderly house or place where disorderly persons meet or may meet for the purpose of illegally dispensing or indulging in intoxicating liquors, gaming or boisterous or other disorderly conduct.” To me that means a business that readily has people with ill will showing up and causing problems should not be in business and that it’s up to the police to uphold that. Why is a man showing up with guns and more than once, on more than one occasion? Why is that place still in business???….
Every month since October there has been at least one shooting surrounding that corner of High Street and Middle Street…and a block away from where people are raising children…from where a woman was shot in her sleep….Why is this still going on?
