Save the Bees Australia has received serious allegations from Mr Pete Connor, former Land Manager of Duxton Bees Pty Ltd.

The allegations include:
That Duxton deliberately moved hives infected with a treatment-resistant strain of Varroa mite (“Supermite”) from Queensland into NSW without quarantining them, allegedly to spread the mite and force competing family beekeepers out of business so they could later acquire their prime apiary sites.
Routinely feeding bees large amounts of sugar syrup instead of allowing them to produce natural honey, while marketing their Fuzzy Bum honey as pure and premium.
The systematic placement of thousands of hives directly onto or beside independent beekeepers’ sites in an alleged attempt to sabotage their businesses.
Exploitation of 403 visa workers, dangerous work conditions, and racism (including against Indigenous people).
Killing and eating of native Australian reptiles, including bearded dragons and frill-necked lizards.
There is currently an investigation underway by NSW DPI into biosecurity matters related to these claims. Mr Connor also has an ongoing case in the Federal Court against Duxton.
We formally put these allegations to Duxton Bees. The company has refused to respond to the specific claims and has stated the matter is now in the hands of their lawyers.
According to Duxton Bees, they manage over 9,000 hives and have clear aspirations to become the largest beekeeping group in Australia. The Duxton Group is an ASX-listed company (DBF) currently trading at approximately 46.5 cents per share, with a market capitalisation of around $50 million. The group also owns significant water rights in the Murray-Darling Basin and large almond farms. The beekeeping operation is reportedly run by a South African beekeeper not accustomed to Australian conditions. Duxton has also recently released a White Paper on the state of the industry that appears to contradict many of the allegations we have received.
