We presented our petition to council last Tuesday the 25th, you can watch the recording linked here! There was positive chatter from three councilors, Cr Fiona McAllister (Ryrie Ward), Cr Peter Mcilwain (Lyster Ward) and Cr Jeff Marriott (Streeton Ward).
They've all requested more info to read up on, which we appreciate. Funny, as we have now dug up a great presentation from 2023 that was already done to the Yarra Ranges council. Presenting Tiny Houses as a solution to homeless in the area (listen to it at 10.47 mins in).
Two years later, we're in an even more dire situation! Benny and I have got a follow up meeting with the staff this Wednesday the 3rd. Let's see what happens..
The council's Housing and Homelessness Officer has been guiding us, and I feel that their Housing Policy and what the approach of the Building / Planning team are in conflict!
"Given these variables, there is currently no standard definition in the Victorian Planning System for tiny houses, but rather Yarra Ranges Council defines and regulates them on a case-by-case basis. For example, if a tiny house is on wheels and moveable, in many cases it is considered a caravan, which is not generally regulated by the Yarra Ranges Planning Scheme but rather is subject to Council's Neighbourhood Amenity Local Law 12.3 (Caravans).”
We will keep they moving forward, your support, ideas and talking to your councilors is working. Thank you, thank you, thank you, please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any ideas or updates!
