Despite more than a year of offering sound scientific documentation to Denver's Mayor Hancock and his appointee, Scott Gilmore of Denver Parks & Recreation, several hundred Canada Geese were forcibly removed from area parks and inhumanely slaughtered in June/July 2020. Then we believe they either had their necks dislocated, resulting in a slow and painful death, or their killers wielded a knife or hatchet and sawed off or chopped off their heads. Goslings included. Babies who had just begun to live...hardly a few months old.
Let's hit Denver where it hurts ... in the pocketbook. Tourism is paramount to the state's income, with most of it generated in the capital city. Visitors to Colorado spent $24.2 billion in 2019. The state welcomed 86.9 million visitors in 2019. The tourism industry supports more than 180,000 jobs in Colorado (2019). Tourism saves every Colorado household $707 annually in taxes (this is the amount of tax dollars residents would have to pay if not for the nearly $1.5 billion in state and local taxes paid annually by visitors).
This comes when Denver is already suffering a more than $250 million deficit due to covid-19, the recent riots/protests, and at least three federal lawsuits filed on how Denver police handled the riots/protests.
We, as an activist group, can greatly influence tourism by telling Denver that you will not visit or spend a dime here. That's, in part, what this petition is about. It will be delivered to the mayor of Denver, the city council, and city and state tourism directors.
Send your own emails too! In tomorrow's update, you'll be provided with all contact information.
Thank you!
