11 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!

Howard County taxpayers are sick of subsidizing developer profits. We need to raise the school impact fees and they have been expressing support on the attached petition to raise fees to $8 per square foot.
Here is a prime example of the subsidy. The Milk Producers Plant site proposal in Laurel, MD wants to build approximately 175 single family detached and 225 single family attached homes.
Using the Emerson Community in Laurel, MD as a basis let’s say each SFD is 4000 sq ft and each SFA is 3000 sq ft - on average. Total square footage would be around 1.375 million.
At the current school impact fee of $1.29 per sq ft the county collects $1.774 million. If the fees were $8 per square foot the county would get $11 Million!
The fees are woefully low and this needs to change.
