——
Julia Hooper, mum to the late Chris Nota , who at just 19 yrs lost his life, due to a failing, broken system …..pens a few paragraphs to you all….
Lately things have gone completely bonkers and there has been a non-stop carousel of meetings, press interviews, TV interviews, protests, meetings with lawyers, meetings with hospitals, meetings at police stations, presentations and stands at exhibitions, hard-core campaigning for the rights of our community in every conceivable way…because it is life and death for them, not convenience…
Tomorrow will be spent in court all day on one issue.
Next Tuesday will be spent in tribunal.
Next Wednesday we’re going to have a small party during the day to celebrate having a spare day to party and the incredible news that I have had two nominations for the finals of the Anna Kennedy Autism Hero Awards in November.
I have had nothing but doors slammed in my face and it has become a norm as we have fought for equality and safety for our community.
THE FIRST AND MOST CRUCIAL BEING A STATUTORY PUBLIC INQUIRY INTO MENTAL HEALTH (Our first in history) and the beginnings of actual equality…
Therefore it means absolutely everything to be able to just stop and celebrate knowing that this kind recognition helps us push ahead.
Ive been crying happy tears.
Much as it has been hard. Bone dissolvingly hard. If I’m really honest I’ve always felt like some other force was behind us pushing us. As if the time was right and that there was a momentum that could create enough of a tsunami for us to ride to the finish line…where we will plant our flag never to be removed….
