Over 2,500 Manitobans Have Signed in just 48 hours!

I am so happy to share that the Petition has now been signed by 2,501 Manitobans, and shared over 1,000 times! It really shows that Cuts to Child Care is NOT what Manitobans want for the ELCC sector, children, or families! 

A threat to ANY part of our early learning and child care sector is a threat to ALL of our sector! 

The Minister of Families’ Office has given a Public Statement regarding the Proposed Amendment to End Enhanced Nursery School Operating Grants, and it is not transparent or clear. And it does not ease fears. If read carefully, it states: the Province wants a legal foundation so they CAN MAKE changes to nursery schools in the future - and only that ANY CHANGES MADE will be shared. Does “the future” mean August 13th once these Amendments are passed? Or September? Or January 2021? Or Fall 2021? 

Please be aware:

• This statement DOES NOT say that the Grant will NOT be cut in the FUTURE.
• This statement DOES NOT clarify what would happen to Enhanced Nursery Schools IF their funding was cut IN THE FUTURE.
• This statement DOES NOT clarify for families that their fees WILL NOT be RAISED in the FUTURE.
• This statement DOES NOT acknowledge the importance of nursery schools in our Provincial ELCC Framework, nor the important services they provide to Manitoba Families.
• All this statement DOES say is that the Province wants a legal foundation to be ABLE to make changes in the future.

COVID-19 has shown that Child Care is Essential! Study after study has documented the importance of high quality, accessible, and affordable early learning and child care! The Federal Government has recently announced the needed support for our Sector!

So WHY is our Provincial Government actively working AGAINST this? Their Proposed Amendments include MANY MORE concerns for our early learning and child care sector - in addition to the Enhanced Grant! 

The ELCC sector deserves better. Our dedicated ECE Workforce deserves better. The children deserve better. Families deserve better.

So to the Province I say: Do better. Be better.
