I'm Phoebe. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of Gizelle, Kyle, and others, I am currently living with Gizelle and her dogs after being rescued. There are many more beautiful and amazing rabbits waiting to be rehabbed and rehomed, and Wild Rose Rabbit Rescue can do this with your sustained support.
One way of doing this is to become a monthly donor. Another way is to donate in kind (exercise Pens aka X-pens, cages, food and water bowls, food, (like free hay for a year, ohhhh yumm), hidey homes, rabbit enrichment toys, traps, and carriers).

WILD ROSE RABBIT RESCUE - PURPOSE
Sometimes people purchase a rabbit without fully understanding the responsibility caring for one entails. When they realize that caring for their new rabbit is beyond their abilities, they will often resort to abandoning the rabbit outside. As a result, thousands of domesticated rabbits have been born feral, left to fend for themselves. Many rabbits know a safe life indoors, where they will be loved and cared for by their precious person. Feral rabbits only understand a life of fear; they are vulnerable to many dangers such as predators, dehydration, hypothermia, and untreated wounds left by other rabbits.
Now, the massive feral rabbit population faces a threat capable of spreading to our native rabbit species, as RHDV quickly makes its way to the Canadian border. RHDV is a deadly and highly contagious disease. Symptoms include seizures, jaundice, bleeding from nose/mouth or rectum, and sudden death. Humans are at fault for the boom of feral rabbits, we are responsible to fix it.
OUR MISSION
Our team intends to capture, spay/neuter, and vaccinate as many feral rabbits as soon as possible. We are swiftly converting a two-car separated garage into a bunny shelter, able to hold 20-30 rabbits at a time. Vaccinated rabbits will be able to go to foster homes, allowing us to grow our program even further. Rabbits will be adopted out to various homes in colonies. This keeps our program sustainable, adopting rabbits in groups of 10+ makes room for any new rabbits coming into our care. Hopefully in time, there will no longer be a feral
Our first actions will be four apartment buildings located in Seton, SE Calgary. We are lucky to have financial support from the property managers to remove the rabbits and relocate them to our shelter.
WHERE THE MONEY WILL GO
Donations will be used for many things including but not limited to:
- Turning the garage into a rabbit savvy shelter, we will mainly be using x-pens
- Food (hay, fortified pellets, and vegetables) for the rabbits
- Enrichment for the rabbits
- Spay and neuter, vaccinations, and other vet related bills
This is currently a "pilot project". We will utilize the $15,000 to intake our first 40 rabbits. In the future, more donations will be needed to maintain this program. When this project is finished, our team hopes to target other Calgarian neighbourhoods that are crawling with rabbits.
