Update :)

Thank you all so much for your incredible support as we rapidly approach the milestone of 10,000 signatures! Your dedication is bringing vital visibility to this cause.  We want to directly address a few recurring questions regarding financial contributions, our upcoming steps, and the incredible community response surrounding Jessie.

Many of you have noticed that after signing, Change.org prompts supporters to "chip in" or make a donation. Please be assured that we are not requesting or accepting financial donations through this platform, and absolutely none of this money goes to us, to the rescue or family , or to our cause. Change.org is a separate website. They include these prompts to fund their own operations and to pay for internal advertisements. You are welcome to skip that step entirely, there are donations, being taken almost everywhere. You look that will go to help in every real way. This is just a petition.  Please know that your signature is already 100% free, fully counted, and deeply appreciated.

We have also received a few questions about why a petition is necessary and whether this recognition should just be an automatic, standard practice. While it absolutely should be automatic, navigating government recognition in Canada frequently requires thinking outside the box. Standard bureaucratic processes are not a fast process, and we expect this journey will take some time to resolve. This petition is simply a helpful tool to complement our efforts; we intend to formally submit this collected data as supporting evidence with our official application to the Government of Canada to help get him recognized. Reaching 10,000 signatures gives the application great momentum and ensures our voice is heard.

Because the formal application process will take a very long time we want to take a moment to recognize the beautiful community that has surrounded Jesse. There are so many wonderful fundraisers and events being put on by volunteers and loved ones right now. There are lots of ways that you can support as everyone gathers together to try and fight his good fight. We encourage everyone to look out for these local community events and fundraisers and to get involved!!
