To everyone who has supported my fight, I want to share a major development that confirms what so many of us have lived through:
On January 16, 2025, Massachusetts lawmakers filed Bill H.1477 - “An Act Enabling Local Options for Tenant Protections.” This bill proves, in black and white, that the Commonwealth knows cities like Springfield have failed to protect tenants from:
- Retaliatory evictions
- Unsafe housing conditions
- Illegal inspections and harassment
- Abuse of people with disabilities
- The silencing of tenant organizers
Let me be clear: this bill confirms everything I’ve been saying in my public testimony and complaints. I wasn’t just evicted - I was punished for speaking up.
H.1477 calls for Just Cause Eviction laws, Anti-Displacement Zones, and local tenant protection boards, none of which Springfield has. If these protections had existed, I believe I never would have been forced from my home.
This isn’t just about me anymore. It’s about every tenant who has been ignored, retaliated against, or displaced without recourse. This bill shows that our city has the power to protect us and has chosen not to.
