As we celebrate Veteran's Day, I'm calling you to action. Today, you can save thousands of veterans lives. There's an entire group of veterans who cannot even access the VA, even though many served multiple tours on the front lines and saved countless American lives - our Afghan and Iraqi translators. There are only two differences between my translator, Janis, who saved my life, and me. First, I won the birth lottery. I was lucky enough to be born into the greatest country in history - America. Janis lost the birth lottery. He was born in Afghanistan the year before the Soviets invaded. Second, I am a one tour combat veteran. I was injured during my tour and as a result, get healthcare from the VA for the rest of my life. Walmart will guarantee me a job. Janis is a nine tour combat veteran. He did nine years on the front lines for our freedom. When I left Afghanistan, he went on to the next unit and the next mission. And yet, because of where he placed in the birth lottery, he cannot go to the VA, even though he was blown up many times by IEDs.
