RARE - Rostrevor Action Respecting the Environment
Sep 20, 2018

Good evening and thanks again to you all for supporting our 2 year campaign to promote common sense decision-making and a democratic, responsible and transparent planning system in Northern Ireland.

In June, the High Court determined that they would need 3 days in September to hear our case challenging the approval of a planning application for a 70-bed nursing home, 41 apartments and an underground car park on a 1 hectare site next to Rostrevor Oak Wood.

However, after just 2 days in court this week Mr Justice McCloskey has concluded proceedings and asked both parties to make their final submissions in writing. He has indicated that a verdict will be handed down on October 12th. The delivery of the verdict will be open to the public and we will post further details about the time and place when we receive this information.

As the outcome of this case will now be determined by the judge, we will not speculate about the verdict, but we would like to thank our barrister, Richard Honey, who was been exceptional in presenting our case to the Court this week and paralegal, Anurag Deb.

Finally, while we can't be certain about what verdict the judge will reach, we are certain that we have done our very best to hold our elected representatives accountable for their decisions, to protect our natural heritage and to ensure this view will not be lost
