Alaa’s mother went to visit him in prison in Cairo.

Laila Soueif has been on hunger strike since September 29th 2024 - the day her son should have walked free. Alaa has been in prison for over a decade for his writings on democracy and his political activism.

He is a citizen of both Egypt and Britain.

On February 25th Laila was hospitalized.

On February 28th Prime Minister @keirstarmer called President Sisi of Egypt.

At that point Laila started taking 300 calories a day. But two months have passed and there has been no progress.

Alaa has never even had a consular visit from a British official.

On hearing his mother had been hospitalized, Alaa began a hunger strike also. He has not eaten since March 1st.

Laila has returned this week to Cairo to see him while she still has enough strength to do so.

Time is running out. We need both governments to negotiate urgently for Alaa’s release.
