Dear Friends,

On Day 73 of Alaa's mother, Laila's hunger strike and the 73rd day of Alaa's illegal imprisonment in Egypt past his release date, we wanted to make sure you know about the special new edition of Alaa's book, "You Have Not Yet Been Defeated" which contains some of Alaa's most powerful and urgent writings on democracy, economics and technology - many of them smuggled out of prison.

‘Don’t read this book to be comforted. Read it to be challenged, terrified, enlightened, moved, and amazed.’ — Kamila Shamsie, author of Home Fire

  • If you'd like a copy you can order it here: above all please keep sharing and reading Alaa's words.
  •  Keep writing to your MP (if you're in the UK). It is making a difference. Get your friends and family to write to theirs using our website tool here.

As Laila's hunger strike continues we'll work hard to keep you updated with news in these coming, crucial days.

More information about "You Have Not Yet Been Defeated":

"Collecting and translating the work of the radical theorist, Alaa Abd el-Fattah, for the first time in English, You Have Not Yet Been Defeated shot to instant international relevance when Alaa – as he is known – began a hunger strike from his prison cell in Egypt. His powerful writings on democracy, economics and technology – many smuggled out of prison – connected with audiences worldwide and rallied cultural figures, labour unions, climate activists, Nobel laureates and political leaders to the call for his freedom. Though Alaa is still in prison today his book, his vision for our world in crisis, reverberates."

Winner: PEN Canada One Humanity Award, Vaclav Havel Centre Disturbing the Peace Award, Electronic Frontier Foundation Pioneer Award, and the PEN Pinter Award, shared with Arundhati Roy.
