The GMC and I were probably legendary. Legends have the truth and a few embellished facts. The truth is, the GMC had never met anyone quite like me. I on the other hand discovered they were a crooked organisation staffed with obtuse people.
The problem with me is that I never respected them or recognised their authority. I think this was really why I never bowed down to them or feared them. The GMC found this tough to accept over the years.
I didn't think it was appropriate for them to send a screener to creep around my life. The screener ended up dying of Alzheimer's and was no doubt at beginnings of the illness at the time of her creeping. They called it the discreet inquiry in their memos. All done without informing me. Naturally, I wasn't going to accept such creepy begaviour. Chances are if they had done it to me, they had been doing it secretly to many doctors.
When they were hit on the snout by legal papers, they thought it was going to be simple to kick me down. As our litigation history shows, none of it was simple for them. I remain a thorn in their side and a stain on their reputation. Their limp apology to me meant nothing. They had made no improvement or shown any remorse for anything they had done to me or other doctors and patients. It still refused to investigate the reports that upheld the patient safety concerns I raised. So much for accountability......
I've won and lost at the GMC but it takes a lot of clever moves to win. I divorced the GMC in the end because they were getting boring. I also knew that fighting silly battles and winning or losing wasn't living my life. We all need freedom from the shackles of slavery.
There is a rumour I was struck off. The GMC likes this rumour but in reality I am administratively erased. I refused to pay my subs to an organisation who treated me like a piece of dirt on the floor and did their best to tread over me. My registration lapsed.
I have never faced a GMC hearing and I've won all the complaints against me. This I did on my own with no defence union. I think the GMC's regret is that they never suceeded in prosecuting me or sanctioning me to set an example to all doctors. Instead, I set the example here - no doctor should accept abuse from its regulatory body. Secondly, even the most junior of doctors has the power and will to fight against oppressive treatment. Thirdly, we became doctors not to be door mats to anyone. We became doctors to stand for what we believe to be right. If our regulatory body cannot do its job, its not worthy of us.
Anyway, here is an evidenced based piece on the GMC

It's worth reading how they have treated other whistleblowers before walking into the fire yourselves.
