We continue to fight back. Thank you to everyone for applying pressure by contacting Bill Posey, Rick Scott, and your State Representative and Senator. Thank you everyone sharing this petition on Facebook, Twitter and everywhere it has gained the attention it needs. What is Victory? 1. Add the Indian River Lagoon to Amendment 1 ....long term, probably the next two decades to start. We need more than a Band-Aid fix. Our destruction will take many years to repair. We need to know the Lagoon will benefit from this preservation fund long term, and the state needs to stop using these funds to pay for unrelated government programs. This is not what we voted on. 2. Ban the sale of all fertilizer from stores which do not meet the pre-defined State requirements. If I am not allowed to use it, why can I still buy it? These fines need to be very, very steep for these uncooperative big box stores. End of Story. 3. Increase fines for fertilization use during banned seasons of the year, and actually start enforcing it. Force the country clubs, communities, and local businesses to observe this regulation. The penalties need to be much steeper if they are caught. Currently the fine is only up to five hundred dollars if caught. Almost seems worth the risk for violators doesn’t it? Set up a hotline for tips to come in, and enforce this law properly. This law has been nothing more than lip service to the public. Let's educate the people and enforce this law. 4. Make all illegal dumping a criminal offense. Period. Today under the Florida Litter Law, a violator can dump up to 15 pounds of sewage, and the maximum penalty is a one hundred dollar fine. Between 15 and 500 pounds? A misdemeanor. Over 500 pounds, a felony yes, but only a third degree felony. Current fining makes it almost worth the risk. This needs to be significantly increased! If you have other ideas which can significantly increase the conservation and protection of our lagoons and waterways, but just haven't had a minute to voice your opinions?
