Dear community:

On behalf of the East Coast Prison Justice Society, thank you for signing our petition, which currently has over 2,000 signatures! Our petition has received media coverage, including from the Coast and CBC. 

The petition was presented at the Halifax Board of Police Commissioners meeting on Monday September 20, 2021, but the Commissioners decided they needed more time to study the materials. The Commissioners are planning to consider the call for an independent review of the police actions on August 18th at their next meeting, which is scheduled for October 18, 2021.

In the meantime, please keep amplifying the call for an independent review, and continue sharing the petition in your networks! If you haven't already, please forward the petition link to those who may sign it - the more signatures we can get, the more pressure it adds.

On another note, you are invited to our AGM this coming Thursday, September 30 at 7pm. It will be livestreamed on our Facebook page and is an opportunity to get up to speed on our work over the past year. We hope to see you there!
