The HSUS list of the Horrible Hundred Puppy Mills has come out for 2015 and Marjorie’s Kennel is still on it.
a. Marjorie Ingraham, Marjorie’s Kennel, Harpursville, NY – RUSTED-THROUGH ENCLOSURES HAD HOLES IN THE WALLS. Marjorie’s Kennel has been a source of concern for local residents for several years. Although repeated state inspections found several violations in February 2015, August 2014, and July 2014, the state appears willing to give the operator repeated chances to fix the problems, even though the repairs don’t seem to last very long. Issues found by state inspectors in February 2015 included dogs with feces stuck in their fur and dogs given away without health exams. Violations found between July and August of 2014 included metal siding on the kennels that was rusted through, framework on chain- link kennels that was rusted and broken, and several dogs with matted fur or feces on their fur. The kennel houses approximately 50 dogs. The HSUS has received complaints about sick puppies sold by the kennel. NY lic # 305. REPEAT OFFENDER.Insert info from Miriam

c. Two things in the report stand out to me. The first is that the state of NY appears to give her chance after chance to improve rather than using the strong laws at their discretion to really fix her operation or shut her down. The second is that she is a REPEAT OFFENDOR and we have been petitioning the Governor and the Dept of Ags and Markets to shut her down since soon after the 2014 report came out. This lack of concern for the lives of these dogs and for the laws of the State of NY are appalling.
All of us need to be enraged by this but especially those supporters who live in New York. Your state has a strong progressive tradition and through the work of many wonderful people has passed some great laws on animal cruelty and puppy mills, but if the officials in charge of enforcing these laws do not, the laws are not effective
Secondly, we will be presenting the petition to NY Government officials on June 2nd. Thanks to Lori P for helping us arrange this. She was the owner of Charlemagne and though she tragically lost her, she has used her memory to push for stronger laws in NY including Charlemagne’s Law. We are so glad to have her help in our fight as well many other anti-puppy mill, rescue and animal groups in New York and across the world. This is not a fight of one person but a fight by many. If you live in New York, please reach out to all your neighbors to get even more signatures from New Yorkers. We really want to show the government how much NY voters want puppy mills stopped in NY.
Finally, here is a great video of Reggie. In December 2013 a dirty, smelly, frail little boy known only as M6 was rescued from Marjorie’s Kennel. He went to live with a great family in New York. His family (Mom, Dad, and two Keeshond sisters) began working to give him the life every dog deserves. He was given the name Reggie (after Reginald Barkley of Star Trek). He was scared of people, he was scared of the crate, scared of the care and so many other things. His loving parents took time and gently guided him to a better life. One of the things they found that gave Reggie confidence was learning tricks. He received his Canine Good Citizen award and Novice Trick Dog title last fall. He enjoyed it so much and it helped him gain confidence and trust so his family continued working with him. Last week, Reggie was awarded his Champion Trick Dog Title. Here is the link to his submission for this Championship, https://youtu.be/poQzHBfm3i0
Please note the information at the end of the submission. Special thanks also go out to his fur sister Kallie, who also earned her championship title. Kallie has made this journey with Reggie and has showed him how to be a loved family pet as well.
