UPDATE , REPOST from MKEA social media page.   From the UH Board of Regents meeting on May 21, 2026 one thing was made clear during the presentation by TMT Project Manager Dr. Fengchuan Liu : after more than a decade, TMT is still discussing permits, funding, timelines, and now even the possibility of changing sites on Mauna Kea.  

Their plans may change, but our commitment to protect Mauna Kea remains the same.
