Often we hear of a criminal case in which prison sentences far exceed the crime. In both Mr. Torres and Ms. Norton's case, this couldn't ring more true. In wake of the unfathomable event involving Dylann Roof in South Carolina, our Nation stood very much divided. One picture of Dylann Roof in particular, led to feverish debate. As he pose for the camera, a Confederate Naval flag was present. Mind you, this is a HISTORICAL symbol! Use of this flag by certain groups has deluded it's historical relevance, along with many Americans perception of intent by which it is portrayed and or displayed. This however, should never cloud better judgement of those entrusted to uphold our Nation's laws. Duly elected officials such as Judge William Mcclain, are to represent the best interests of his constituents. Not allow social media or public opinion sway decisions in his courtroom. In the case of Jose Torres and Kayla Norton, this was PAINFULLY APPARENT! A HISTORICAL symbol " Confederate Flag" with them at the time of the altercation is what led to their lenghty unjust prison sentences, NOT their actions. No amount of WORDS ALONE should EVER cost ANY American 20 yrs of their life! Allowing events that transpired in Charleston S.C to effect an entirely separate case, is not only unconscionable but completely Unconstitutional and just cause for an IMMEDIATE reexamination of their case! Bias should NEVER be present in our court system. Such precedent is nothing less than terrifying. Freedom of expression no matter difference in opinion should NEVER be impeded! Putting one's feelings over another's Constitutional rights is blasphemy! Let's keep fighting to bring proper justice to both Mr. Torres and Ms. Norton.
