HELLO all 240,495 of you!
One BIG and unfortunate update:
Today, George Osborne delivered the first Tory budget for 20 years. He argued that with it, “Britain had turned a corner and left the age of irresponsibility behind".
Yet, he failed to so much as mention sanitary tax - an issue that affects millions.
Whilst giving with one hand and taking from the other, Osborne lifted taxes such as inheritance tax, allowing homes worth £1m to be passed down, tax free.
He justified this tax cut by describing the want to pass on property as "the most basic, natural and human aspiration there is".
Perhaps there are other, more fundamental, natural and basic aspirations that he could have eased today such as our basic need to purchase and use sanitary products.
So long as this tax exists, institutional sexism will continue to run through our country, issues associated with women will remain ostracised, and because of this, women will continue to feel alienated by Parliament.
It's time for us to turn an important corner and to start taking issues associated with women seriously: it's time to leave the age of irresponsibility and overt sexism behind. Period.
