Your Opportunity - House of Commons Debate

On 17th April, between 4-5pm, this petition will be debated in the House of Commons. On the same day, I have been given the opportunity to meet with Preet Kaur Gill, the Shadow Minister for Primary Care and Public Health. This is a chance for the campaign voice to be really heard and especially important if a General Election is likely in the next year. So there are two things I need from you …
- Please post in the comments anything you feel needs to be discussed that I haven’t already mentioned below; and
- Please contact your MP and ask him/her to attend the debate. This is vital to ensure the House understands this issue affects so many of us and needs addressing.
Points I will be raising:
(A) Cancer patients to be given priority to see an NHS dentist, within 2 weeks of requesting an appointment to avoid delays in vital treatment;
(B) Cost - the disparity between pregnant women (who receive 5 years free dental treatment) and cancer patients (who get nothing) needs to be addressed. I have several suggestions and will be putting forward ideas;
(C) Awareness - there should be a method(s) by which cancer patients are told to visit their dentist as soon as given a cancer diagnosis. This may well prevent future dental issues but unfortunately needs explaining to patients (and of course this is linked to point (A) above).
This is literally a snapshot and overview of key points. I have prepared a more thorough document to hand out but if you think of anything else, please add your comment below.
As ever, thank you for your continued support.
