Petition updateFix the Brown Mountain road in SE NSW with Federal fundingTRAFFIC JAMS ON THE BROWN UNTIL 2024

Major traffic jams on the unsafe and unreliable Brown Mountain road will continue into 2024 due to long delays by Transport NSW in fixing the big landslip of February/March 2022 where the current singe-lane red light stop-go bottleneck is located about 2 kms down from the top of the mountain pass.

Transport NSW has taken 12 long months to let a tender for repairs and still has to approve a design before work can start.  There is no date made public for when two-lane traffic will resume.  Meanwhile the single-lane red light will stay most likely into 2024. Unacceptable.

On Sunday 29 January 2023, there was a traffic jam of over 500 vehicles crawling up the Brown Mountain stretching approximately 5 kms from the power station to the red light.  Drivers took over an hour to transit the 10kms mountain section, instead of the normal 15 minutes.  The green light on the single-lane lasts only 20 seconds, letting just 6 to 8 vehicles through, then delaying for another 70 seconds for downward traffic and a safety margin.

You can make a difference to this unacceptable ituation by signing the FIX THE BROWN on line petition. Go to fixthebrown.com and click on the petitions button at the top of the fallen rocks photo.
