Dear all,
We who have signed this petition all have one thing in common: we care enough about Liverpool FC to consider what is best for its future. That is why, despite Liverpool winning their last 3 games without conceding a goal, I am still posting an update on this petition.
When was the last time Liverpool won a game thanks to Slot's tactical prowess, rather than individual moments of brilliance from the players? When was the last time Liverpool performed above normal expectations, rather than under-performing? When was the last time that we, as Liverpool fans, were happy with Arne Slot?
In the next three months, Liverpool will face a relentless battle for the Champions' League places. Manchester United have been strong recently, and Chelsea, despite recent slip-ups against Leeds United and Burnley, are still in a strong position to finish in fourth or above. Liverpool, by comparison, are level on points with Chelsea, but ten goals behind on goal difference with eleven games left to play. Eleven games may seem like a lot of time, but Liverpool still have to play Chelsea, Brentford, and Tottenham Hotspurs at home, coupled with away games at Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Everton. Considering Liverpool's inconsistent and poor form this year, it isn't far-fetched to think that Liverpool could end up dropping points in all six of these games. And if Liverpool don't want to face the financial drain and loss of pride that comes from finishing outside the Champions' League, we cannot afford to sleepwalk through games and drop crucial points against top-4 rivals.
The most recent game at Nottingham Forest displayed all these problems. Liverpool were mind-blowingly poor against a relegation team that had just travelled back from playing a Europa League playoff in Istanbul, and needed a last-gasp goal from one of their most out-of-form players to snatch three points. If this is the performance put up against a 17th-place team after a week of rest, us Liverpool fans can only fear what will happen to us against stronger teams.
This is why Slot still needs to be fired. Liverpool's chances of qualifying for Champions' League via the Premier League are worryingly slim, and they are already knocked out of the Carabao Cup. Liverpool could face one of either Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray, or Juventus in the Champions' League Round of 16, which is dangerous considering they've been beaten by far worse teams this season. The FA Cup still presents a realistic shot at silverware, but Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle, and Arsenal are still in the competition, posing very real threats to Liverpool's chances. The way Slot selects and arranges the team, Liverpool could end up sleepwalking out of the two competitions they can still win--and the very opposite can happen with a new manager.
A new manager could inject life into Liverpool's veins. A new manager could bring versatile, diverse tactics that suit the players currently at the club. A new manager could bring confidence and aura to Liverpool at a paramount point of the season, one that could determine if we look back on 2025-26 as a success or a failure.
Three wins against teams with a combined 3 wins in their last 15 games is not enough for Slot to keep his job, not after all the unfathomable misery he's put the Liverpool players and fans through with his coaching methods. As fans, it is our job to keep the pressure on for the good of the club's present and future.
