Good news!…….There was a full house at the Public Meeting held by the BC Agricultural Land Commission Tuesday 23 January at Kwantlen Polytechnic University Auditorium. If the speakers and the audience have any influence, these lands will be placed into the Agricultural Land Reserve to be used only for food production.

However, this is only the first step. The federal government has a procedure to follow when it decides to release control of the lands.  Before transferring/selling the lands, the federal government must meet first with interested First Nations, followed by the provincial government and finally ,with the municipal government, before placing lands on the open market.

Let us hope that these three primary stake holders will come to an agreement that will protect these lands for local/regional food production in perpetuity.
