The lastest development at the Russian Embassy in Dublin is that the Foreign Office has asked four senior officials to leave the country. The officials are not named. The explusion of these officials Simon Coveney says is that their behaviour is not to international standards of diplomatic behaviour. Mr Coveney also quotes the Vienna convention on Diplomatic relations.
Four officials out of the 30 staff is not enough to even dent the work that is carried out at the Embassy gathering intellegance and communications from Ireland and other European countries. This information is conveyed to Moscow and could be used by the Russian Army to continue to carry out war crimes in Ukraine.
While Mr Coveney states the embassy is useful to convey Ireland position on the Russian war on Ukraine, I do't think Ireland has enough influence with Putin to justify the Embassy remaining open in Dublin, in comparison to the damage it is causing to Ukraine and her allies.
The Russian Embassy in Ireland must be closed and all staff must leave the country.
