Dear signataire,
Thank you sincerely for signing the STOP TRUMP petition. Your commitment matters — and since you signed, things have moved fast. Here is a full update on what has happened, what is working, and what you can do now.
FOUR BREAKING DEVELOPMENTS since you signed:
1. PROOF THAT FIRMNESS WORKS
January 21-22: Europe suspended trade deal, deployed troops to Greenland, stood united → Result: Trump RETREATED on annexation threats and tariffs → French MEP Guetta: “When Europe shows its muscles, Trump retreats”
2. NOVEMBER 2026 IS EVERYTHING
Current polling: 60-65% Democrats win House → If they win: Trump paralyzed by investigations, impeachment likely Spring 2027 → If GOP holds: Trump unleashed with no oversight → 10 months until this decisive vote
3. GROK INVESTIGATION CONCERNS
According to Handelsblatt, Commission delayed Grok investigation (3M sexualized images including children) during Greenland crisis → MEP Alexandra Geese: “A big mistake. Fear of US reaction” → This is concerning — we cannot enforce laws only when politically convenient
4. EPSTEIN FILES: CONFLICTS OF INTEREST AT THE TOP
January 30: DOJ released 3.5 million Epstein files — but withheld ~2.5 million pages while claiming full compliance. Bipartisan lawmakers demanding access. Meanwhile: Commerce Secretary Lutnick (who negotiates EU trade) visited Epstein’s island in 2012 — contradicting his claim of cutting contact in 2005. Musk’s emails show him actively seeking Epstein’s island parties — contradicting his repeated “I REFUSED” claims. This matters: Lutnick negotiates your trade policy. Musk owns the platform under EU investigation.
The Davos success bought time. But tactical victories aren’t enough.
We need PERMANENT strategic autonomy.
Here’s what’s realistic, what’s working, and what you can do now.
THE DAVOS SUCCESS: PROOF THAT FIRMNESS WORKS
What happened (January 21-22, 2026):
• European Parliament suspended ratification of the Turnberry trade agreement
• Six EU nations (plus UK and Norway) rejected Trump’s 10% tariff threats
• Symbolic military deployment to Greenland
• European leaders rejected Trump’s “Peace Council” proposal
• Result: Trump backed down on Greenland annexation and tariff threats
As French MEP Bernard Guetta observed: “When Europe shows its muscles, Trump retreats.”
This wasn’t luck. This was coordinated economic and diplomatic pressure. Europe has a 20% share of global GDP and 500 million consumers — the world’s largest market. When we act together, we have leverage.
But here’s the problem: Trump is unpredictable. Days after backing down, he confused Belgium with Belarus and continued attacking our ICC judges. The Davos success bought time — it didn’t solve the structural problem of American unreliability.
THE NUMBERS: NOVEMBER 2026 & TRUMP’S LIKELY TENURE
Current polling forecasts:
• Generic Congressional Ballot: Democrats +5 points
• House prediction: 60-65% probability Democrats win
• Trump’s approval: Collapsed from +6.2 (inauguration) to -12.6 (now) — an 18.8-point swing
• Key factor: Economic disappointment (tariffs, cost of living)
What this means:
• If Democrats win House (likely): Trump faces investigations, potential impeachment by Spring 2027
• If Republicans hold (25% chance): Trump unleashed with no congressional oversight
But here’s the hard truth:
Even if impeached, Senate conviction requires 67 votes. With Republicans holding ~52-53 Senate seats, removal is mathematically nearly impossible (need 20 GOP senators to break ranks — only 7 did after January 6).
Bottom line: Trump will almost certainly complete his term through January 2029.
Probability of removal before then: 5-8%.
QUICK WINS ALREADY HAPPENING
You might feel powerless, but your pressure IS working:
FRANCE LEADING ON TECH SOVEREIGNTY (Jan 29, 2026)
• Removing Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet from all government by 2027
• Replacing with French-developed Visio (sovereign cloud)
• Macron: “Europe must refuse to become a vassal in digital realm”
• Demand your country follows France’s model
GROK INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED (Jan 29, despite delay)
• Commission investigating X for 3M sexualized deepfake images
• Potential fines: up to 6% of global revenue = €2.4 billion
• Contact Commission demanding no more delays
VOLKSWAGEN CANCELLED $2.5B US INVESTMENT (Jan 27)
• Trump’s tariffs making American manufacturing uncompetitive
• European companies diversifying away from US
• Economic decoupling accelerating naturally
• Support European companies choosing sovereignty over US market
ICC JUDGES FIGHTING BACK
• French judge Nicolas Guillou publicly defying US sanctions
• International support growing
• Demand your government provide alternative banking
These aren’t hypotheticals. They’re happening NOW because of pressure like yours.
WHAT’S REALISTIC (And Working)
1. Continue Unified Economic Pressure (PROVEN EFFECTIVE)
Davos showed this works. Europe must maintain:
• Trade suspension readiness (Turnberry agreement still unratified)
• €93 billion in retaliatory counter-tariffs prepared (already outlined by Commission)
• Diversify away from U.S. economic dependence
Economic reality check:
• Current 15% U.S. tariffs cost Europe only 0.2% of GDP in 2025
• Even +10% more would cost 0.2-0.5% GDP (manageable)
• EU exports to US = only 3% of European GDP
• Volkswagen just cancelled its $2.5 billion U.S. Audi plant (January 27) — American protectionism is hurting their own competitiveness
We can afford to stand firm. Trump’s economic threats are loud but limited.
2. Deploy the “Bazooka”: Anti-Coercion Instrument
The Anti-Coercion Instrument (ACI), adopted in 2023, was designed for exactly this moment. Europe can impose:
• Targeted tariffs on U.S. products
• Restrictions on access to public procurement
• Financial services blocks
• Intellectual property suspensions
Primary target: Big Tech (Meta, Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft)
Europe can:
• Impose digital taxes (France already does this)
• Charge “network fees” for data traffic (Netflix, Google)
• Restrict cloud services from public contracts
• Enforce Digital Services Act (DSA) with fines up to 6% of global revenue
• Block platforms entirely if violations continue
Real example: X’s AI chatbot Grok generated 3 million sexualized deepfake images in two weeks, including tens of thousands depicting children. Victims include Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch. Commission launched investigation January 29.
But here’s a concern: According to German newspaper Handelsblatt, the Commission’s Grok investigation may have been delayed during the Greenland crisis due to concerns about U.S. reaction.
MEP Alexandra Geese: “A big mistake was made. There was a lot of fear about the reaction from the US administration.”
This is concerning. If Europe won’t enforce laws against child sexual abuse material production because of tariff threats, we’ve already compromised our sovereignty. The investigation is now proceeding (Jan 29) — but we must ensure no more delays.
This isn’t about blaming individuals — it’s about establishing the principle that European law cannot be held hostage to external threats.
3. Build Strategic Autonomy (18-36 months)
France announced (January 29) it will remove Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex, and Google Meet from all government departments by 2027, replacing them with French-developed Visio (hosted on sovereign cloud Outscale).
Benefits:
• Security: sensitive data under European control
• Economics: saves ~€1M per year per 100,000 users
• Autonomy: critical infrastructure no longer vulnerable to U.S. pressure
This must expand to all 27 EU nations.
Other strategic autonomy priorities:
• Independent European defense (already accelerating under Germany’s Merz)
• UK-France nuclear cooperation expanded
• Energy independence (already in Green Deal)
• European semiconductors, AI, cloud
• Payment systems independent of U.S. dollar control
Funding exists: €390-450B/year available through super-wealth tax, financial transaction tax, tax evasion recovery, ending fossil fuel subsidies, pooled defense efficiencies.
4. Protect Victims & Dissidents
Europe CAN provide:
• Political asylum for persecuted Americans (journalists like Hannah Natanson, activists, those fleeing ICE)
• ICC judge protection (alternative banking for sanctioned judges like Nicolas Guillou)
• Whistleblower sanctuary for those exposing abuses and corruption
5. Universal Jurisdiction Prosecutions — How It Works
Many asked: How can Europe prosecute crimes in the US?
European law (particularly Belgian, Spanish, French, and German statutes) allows prosecution of certain international crimes regardless of where they occurred.
How:
Crimes against humanity status: ICE’s systematic violence (7 killed, 19 wounded since January 2025, including American citizens Renée Good and Alex Pretti) establishes a pattern of attacks on civilians.
Evidence accessibility:
• Witness testimony from refugees granted asylum in Europe
• Video evidence already public (Renée Good’s killing contradicts official account)
• Whistleblower documents (asylum protects those exposing abuses)
• X/Grok investigation provides direct EU jurisdiction over CSAM production
Jurisdictional triggers:
• Perpetrators entering EU territory → arrest warrant
• European victims/witnesses (Swedish Deputy PM Ebba Busch in Grok case)
• Crimes using EU digital infrastructure (X operates in EU under DSA)
Realistic scope: We cannot extradite from US, but we CAN:
• Issue arrest warrants preventing perpetrators from traveling to Europe
• Freeze European assets
• Create legal records for future accountability when US democracy recovers
• Prosecute technology companies operating in EU (X/Grok case already opened)
Key precedents: Belgium prosecuted Rwandan genocide perpetrators. Germany prosecuted Syrian regime officials. Spain issued arrest warrants for US Guantanamo officials (later dropped under political pressure — we must not repeat that mistake).
The legal framework exists. It requires political will.
6. Support American Democratic Resistance
The real battle is November 3, 2026 — American voters are the ultimate check. Europe can:
• Amplify voices of American journalists, civil society
• Fund organizations protecting voting rights
• Provide platforms for censored voices
• Document abuses for future accountability (post-2029 prosecutions)
7. The Epstein Files: Why This Directly Concerns Europe
On January 30, the DOJ released 3.5 million pages of Epstein files — but identified over 6 million potentially responsive pages and withheld roughly half. Deputy AG Todd Blanche claimed this “marks the end” of DOJ compliance, but the bipartisan sponsors of the Epstein Files Transparency Act — including Republican Rep. Thomas Massie — formally demanded access to unredacted files, writing: “The DoJ said it identified over 6 million potentially responsive pages but is releasing only about 3.5 million. This raises questions as to why the rest are being withheld.”
Twenty Epstein survivors issued a joint statement: “Survivors are having their names and identifying information exposed, while the men who abused us remain hidden and protected. Once again, survivors are having their names exposed while the men who abused us remain hidden. That is outrageous.”
Why this directly concerns Europe:
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick — the man linking EU tariff negotiations to European tech regulation — visited Epstein’s private island in December 2012 with his family. Email correspondence (confirmed by CNN, The Guardian, NBC News, and CNBC) shows continued contact through at least 2015, including a 2015 invitation to a Hillary Clinton fundraiser Lutnick hosted. On January 30, Lutnick told the New York Times: “I spent zero time with him” — then hung up. This directly contradicts his earlier public claim of having cut all contact after 2005.
Elon Musk — whose platform Grok is under EU investigation for generating 3 million sexualized deepfake images — exchanged emails with Epstein from 2012 to 2013 actively seeking to visit his island. In one exchange, Musk asked: “What day/night will be the wildest party on your island?” and later said the “peaceful island experience is the opposite of what I’m looking for.” Epstein wrote that “the ratio on my island might make Talulah uncomfortable” — Musk replied: “ratio is not a problem for Talulah.” This directly contradicts Musk’s repeated public claims — including a September 2025 post on X stating he “REFUSED” all invitations. (Confirmed by CNN, NBC News, The Guardian, The Independent, Daily Beast, CNBC, and People.)
We demand that EU leaders factor these conflicts of interest into trade and tech regulation decisions. Lutnick should not negotiate EU tariffs while his Epstein connections remain uninvestigated. The Grok investigation must proceed on its legal merits, independently of Musk’s political influence.
WHAT MIGHT NOT WORK
• 25th Amendment: <1% chance — requires VP Vance to betray Trump
• Senate Conviction: Impossible math (need 67 votes, only 52-53 GOP)
• Military Intervention: Would trigger war, violate everything we stand for
• Regime Change Operations: We cannot become what we oppose
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned: “If someone thinks the EU can defend itself without the US… keep dreaming! You cannot!”
Rutte is right about current capabilities — but wrong about the solution. The problem isn’t that we lack American support. The problem is that America actively threatens us. We must build what we need, regardless of U.S. intentions.
MOST LIKELY SCENARIO (60% Probability)
• November 2026: Democrats win House
• January-March 2027: Investigations expose abuses
• Spring 2027: House impeachment vote (3rd time)
• Summer 2027: Senate acquits (but Trump damaged)
• 2027-2028: Trump paralyzed by Democratic oversight — no legislation, constant hearings, criminal referrals
• November 2028: Trump weakened, likely loses election
• January 2029: New president, Trump loses immunity
• 2029-2030: Multiple prosecutions (federal, state, civil) — this is when accountability happens
WORST CASE SCENARIO (25% Probability)
• November 2026: Republicans hold House
• 2027-2028: Trump unleashed — more ICE violence, press persecution, international aggression
• November 2028: Trump possibly wins or backs successor
If this happens: Europe must implement maximum isolation — complete NATO restructuring, full economic decoupling, humanitarian asylum for American refugees.
DANGER ZONE: November 2028 - January 2029
If Trump loses 2028 election, the 73 days between election and inauguration are maximum danger. He faces certain prosecution and potential imprisonment upon leaving office.
Possible actions by cornered Trump:
• Self-pardon attempt
• Refuse to leave office
• Invoke emergency powers
• Incite violence
This is when American democracy faces its greatest test. Europe must prepare contingency plans.
THE HARD TRUTH: BUILD SOVEREIGNTY AS IF AMERICA WON’T RECOVER
Hope is not a strategy. Yes, American voters might save their democracy. Yes, Trump might be prosecuted in 2029. Yes, the transatlantic alliance might be rebuilt.
But Europe must build strategic autonomy as if none of that will happen. Because even in the best case — Democrats win in 2026, Trump loses in 2028, prosecutions follow in 2029 — we’ve learned a terrifying lesson: American democracy is one election away from tyranny.
We can never again stake European security on American reliability.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said it best: “The old world is gone and will not return.”
WE’RE NOT ANTI-AMERICAN — WE’RE PRO-SOVEREIGNTY
This isn’t about America. It’s about European security.
We support American democracy. We hope voters remove Trump in 2026 or 2028. We stand ready to rebuild the transatlantic alliance when the United States demonstrates:
• ✅ Respect for territorial integrity of allies
• ✅ Support for international legal institutions (ICC, UN)
• ✅ Democratic norms (free press, rule of law)
• ✅ Fair trade practices (no coercive tariffs)
But we cannot stake European security on hope.
Danish PM Frederiksen: “The old world is gone and will not return.”
We build sovereignty not against America — but regardless of American intentions. When American democracy recovers, Europe will be a partner. Until then, Europe must defend itself.
