The famous words of one of the most powerful voices in US politics, to date, the late, Representative John Lewis, “Good Trouble” it’s not only the name of his biopic that is now available to be viewed, on HULU, but it speaks to understanding, that your voice has power, even if it alienate some people. Before that coined phrase was popular, there were so many times in my life, when I felt as though I DID something or WAS something, a bit before my time. This allow the concept of whatever I was thinking, or doing, to be seen, but of course, not accepted or recognized by a lot of people as a “new thing“ or even an “ok” thing, within the status quo. To that, I have had adverse reactions to my behaviors, and my actions, in the mission of what I was called to do in life. This mission to an act. #KiyahsLaw, is no different. Coming from a place of pure love and pure adulation of the life and times of Zakiyah, this mission has taken me to levels of pain then pride and then pain again, and everything in between, to allow me to keep going. To that end, we are deciding to raise our voice, a little bit more publicly to explain away the questions, doubts (and the naysayers), and what it is that we are fighting for. Unfortunately, negative energy is a bit more powerful than positive energy, but that can still can be changed or empowered…and that’s just what we plan to do, through this new podcast. Entitled, “One Fierce Podcast”, this will open up the conversation of what it’s like to be both Victim and Victor in the battle of domestic violence. We will speak about the law, it’s progress as well as solutions, for those that have survived domestic violence, physical and sexual assault, as well as intimate partner violence, and human trafficking of any kind. We will have guest speakers, professionals, and those that have experience firsthand, what it’s like to survive a near fatal domestic violence situation. I’d like to welcome you to this podcast and prayerfully, we will garner the same attention that this unicorn law, is about to do. We are going to change this world, simply because Kiyah was in it.
