An email has been sent to the Equitana organisers requesting a response as to whether they will be cancelling Patrik Kittel's Equitana appearance. "To the organisers of Equitana 2016, We the undersigned understand that you are aware of the opposition towards Patrik Kittel presenting at Equitana 2016. Kittel is a known user of the practice 'rollkur', a highly controversial method which is known to be highly detrimental to the wellbieng of the horse. The petition 'Equitana - Cancel the appearance of Patrik Kittel at Equitana 2016' with Change.org has attracted well over 3,000 signatures and many are speaking out on social media about Kittel's appearance at your trade show. We believe that Equitana has a responsibility to give the opportunity of presenter promotion to those who deserve it, and especially not to those who have been involved with methods which deliberately cause a horse preventable pain and suffering. The notorious ‘Blue Tongue’ incident is evidence enough to show that Kittel has used abusive training methods, and the recent video evidence of his warm up at Falsterbo Horse Show proves that he continues to demonstrate his determination to push horses into outlines well behind the vertical and against classical dressage principles. The fact that Kittel has made no public statement against the use of method speaks volumes. He is quite clearly still using it. Australians are waking up to the abusive techniques used by some European riders, Kittel being one of the most discussed due to his high profile and the continuous evidence of horse abuse. The promotion of a user of such methods says to the Australian equestrian community that rollkur is ok and acceptable. We hope that Equitana has considered the business implications of having Kittel appear. There are so many great, ethical presenters at Equitana who we sincerley wish do not suffer from poor attendance at your trade show due to a controversial choice of presenter. In the interest of education and horse welfare in Australia, we the undersigned would like a response from Equitana as to whether you will be cancelling Patrik Kittel's appearance at Equitana 2016.
