In the Aug. 24, 2024, post at https://x.com/basedmikelee/status/1827446468413895056?s=46 , U.S. Senator Mike Lee, a lawyer from Utah, spoke out:

"DC is supposed to be governed by Congress[.] Congress has abdicated that role for the last half-century under a law known as “DC Home Rule” DC just took custody of a child with autism because his parents won’t subject him to surgical mutilation It’s time to #RepealDCHomeRule "

Attorney Amos Jones (for the family and the therapist in the ongoing legal cases) has commented on the issues the Senator raised, calling attention to a related August 27, 2024, letter from the Congressional Committee on Oversight and Accountability, adding perspective as follows via LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/posts/amosjones_the-us-house-of-representatives-committee-activity-7236408584329187329-tnxb?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop:

"Thank you for the notice below, Dr. Von Batten. The D.C. Office of Human Rights, I hope, will fulfill its charging responsibilities in the two cases there pending against Children's National Hospital. If that Agency fails these complainants, then the Congress may intervene to reverse such slack/corruption, too.

"I fully support Home Rule for Washington -- until D.C. agencies begin to oppress the people of this city and deny them equal protection of the law. At that point of flagrant Constitutional transgression, Congress must act quickly to protect the Americans within this jurisdiction, as the federal legislature did when members overturned the D.C. Council on its ill-fated 2023 crime bill, and aligned instead with the position of our great Mayor Muriel Bowser last year, who'd herself vetoed the D.C. Council but was overridden. Even Joe Biden agreed with that Congressional intervention stopping D.C.'s madness on public-safety questions. #CongressTakeTheWheel "
