We wish for the city of Bihac to effectively and compassionately help solve the problems regarding the stray dog population. Explanatory and educational work , as well as castration and providing adequate shelter and food for the dogs are obligatory factors to better the situation for everyone involved. Recently a little boy was bitten by a dog and we are worried the mass murder of strays will be a result of this incident, as locals have commented on several articles voicing their unjust accusations of the strays and demand for their killing. The dog in the previously described incident was not a stray and this is part of the problem. Responsible dog ownership needs to be promoted and enforced. Companion dogs need to be castrated, chipped, vaccinated and responsibly taken care of in order to prevent such incidents. A call for murdering the stray dog population, as voiced, is unnecessary, uncalled for, lacks compassion and humanity and is internationally frowned upon. It will not have positive long-term effects on the situation in Bihac.The shelters for stray dogs need more ponds, regular food, water and veterinary care and I am certain with international correspondence and effective communication we can better the situation for everyone involved.
