
On Wednesday, August 11th, the Senate and Assembly Education Committees are holding a joint public hearing for several bills. Included in the agenda will be SB 463, a bill to require all public schools to share their classroom materials on a publicly accessible website. We are coordinating individuals to come and testify in favor of SB 463 on August 11th.
SB 463 will require every public school to post all teaching materials and curriculum information on a publicly available website by grade, subject and teacher. After conducting open records requests around the state, WILL’s research found concerning learning materials in PowerPoints used in classroom, teacher-student activities, etc. SB 463 addresses this issue by requiring, at the very least, a list of the materials used in the classroom. If the teacher or school employee creates part of the activity or lesson, that must be posted in its entirety. This bill will ensure parents have access to the learning materials used in their child’s classroom. SB 463 will inform and empower parents, taxpayers and school board members about what is being taught in the classroom.
