An Update on Cheryl’s Law

To everyone who has signed this petition, shared our story, or offered words of encouragement—thank you.
Over the past year, my life has changed in ways I never imagined. Losing my mother, Cheryl, after everything she endured has been the most difficult experience of my life.

Many of you have asked about the status of this petition and Cheryl’s Law. I want you to know that I have not forgotten this cause, and I have not given up.

The truth is that after months of hospitalizations, medical advocacy, appeals, and ultimately losing my mother, I needed time to do something I hadn’t allowed myself to do throughout the fight: grieve. I needed time to process everything that happened, to begin healing, and to regain the strength necessary to continue this work.

Fortunately, the Florida Legislature is currently out of session, making this an appropriate time to pause and prepare rather than push forward without the focus this effort deserves.

But this is only a pause.

When the Legislature reconvenes, I intend to continue advocating for meaningful change so that other families do not have to endure the confusion, frustration, and heartbreak that mine experienced.

In the meantime, your support is more important than ever.

Please continue sharing this petition and encouraging others to sign it. Every signature strengthens our collective voice and demonstrates that this is not just one family’s story—it reflects a problem that affects patients and families across Florida and throughout the United States.

Every patient deserves better.

And every family deserves clear communication, accountability, and compassionate care during the most difficult moments of their lives.

Thank you for standing with me. When the time comes to return to Tallahassee, I hope we will do so with even more voices behind us than we have today.
