Hello and Happy New Year!

With the New Year we wanted to reach out to the community to ask for support. We have updated the Ebony Alert Petition highlighting essential information about why we need the Ebony Alert more than ever.

Statistics show in 2020 there were approximately 64,000 missing Black women and girls, however as of 2024 that number has grown exponentially to 100,000 missing Black women and girls. This is a National Crisis and there are other states addressing this huge issue.

In 2023, California was the first state to sign the Ebony Alert into law. Since then, there have been other states working on legislation including Massachusetts, Illinois, and New York.

We are doing the same here in Washington State and we need your help. The community voices are imperative in implementing new laws into legislation. There are approximately 235,000 signatures required to get the attention of legislators.

We request the community’s support in reaching that number. Please review the updated Ebony Alert Petition with information on What the Ebony Alert is, The Why, the Key elements and what you can do to support getting this important initiative into legislation.

In Washington state there is already the Red Alert for Missing Indigenous people. The disproportionate amount of missing people that are victims of trafficking and domestic violence, and the lack of resources or media coverage for missing Black people in Washington is like that of the community of Indigenous people.

We know it is possible to get an Ebony Alert signed into law with your support. It takes a community to advocate for change. Please sign and share this petition with your friends, family, co-workers, and community.

We appreciate your support and if you have any questions, you can contact the Washington Ebony Alert Coalition at admin@ebonyalertwashington.com.

Thank you!
