Good afternoon, folks!
With today marking the start of Bike Month in Toronto, I would like to take a moment to thank you for being among the almost 400 people who have signed the petition to extend the Bloor bike lanes west from Runnymede to Six Points and along Dundas to The East Mall. It's great to see momentum building to finish the job of a crosstown bikeway along Bloor-Danforth.
In order to build momentum for our campaign, I encourage you to please do the following:
- Share this petition widely with your networks.
- E-mail Mayor John Tory (mayor_tory@toronto.ca) to call on him to support extending the Bloor bike lanes, as well as copy your city councillor. Especially if you live in Parkdale-High Park (councillor_perks@toronto.ca) or Etobicoke-Lakeshore (councillor_grimes@toronto.ca).
- Consider joining the Toronto Community Bikeways Coalition’s mailing list to get quarterly newsletters, as well as follow their Twitter feed and join their Facebook group.
Further to this petition, the Toronto Community Bikeways Coalition prepared a letter of support for businesses and community groups to sign on. We have eighteen signatories so far including four resident associations (Bloor West Village, Mimico, Sunnylea-Stonegate, and Islington), two businesses along The Kingsway, Better Dundas Coalition, David Suzuki Foundation, and others. If you would like to show your support on behalf of a business or community group within Bloor West Village or Etobicoke, please e-mail me at robert.zaichkowski@yahoo.ca and I will add it to the letter.
I will send further updates as action items such as public consultations and city hall motions come up.
Thanks again for your support and Happy Bike Month!
