Thank you to those who have supported us thus far. We are now at 200 plus signatures, soon we will be at critical mass: which means that the work making this petition take off will be accelerated by those who sign, and those who care. Your help is how we reach 1,000 signers--and and beyond.
Now it is time for each of us to share this petition with others--either by direct email to friends, by a comment and link on a blog, or by contacting an organization you know will help us. We are in this together, and your combined efforts will far exceed our own--a mere father/daughter team with an idea.
And what is that idea? That our voice matters! That our voice has been marginalized, has always been taken for granted. Our silence licenses the DNC to stage manage the convention and produce an "electable" candidate who will perpetuate the dysfunction and corporatism that harms us all. The DNC would have you believe the election is only about Trump. But it's about much more than that: It's about reforming a corrupt, bought and sold system.
We cannot prevent the DNC from doing what it wants to do, and from structuring the debates as crowded horse races that shed little light on real issues.
They have the power. But we can declare that we will no longer continue to pile up stones for the Pharaoh. In the spirit of Ghandi's Ahimsa, we will no longer give energy to empire. We will boycott the buses of a new Montgomery; we will refuse to give up our rightful seat to the masters.
In this spirit, we pledge not to support a candidate who does not have a history of advocating for core progressive ideas. We will only support a candidate who is authentic, not opportunistic. We will refuse to support a candidate who promises more of the same, and whose hidden allegiance is to the oligarchs, to the military, and to the forces that undermine democracy.
We are not pleading with the DNC. Instead, this is a categorical demand: We will not repeat 2016. We will not be rolled!
