I have some exciting news to share. Recently, I was contacted by Socialist Survivors, a collective of democratic socialist feminists calling on Joe Biden to step aside. Since their call to action on May 22nd, their petition has received support from 12 feminist DSA groups, 17 DSA branches/chapters, and over 400 individuals. In light of our shared vision and the innate knowledge that we are always stronger together, I am thrilled to announce that Socialist Survivors and I have decided to join forces. 

We met for the first time this week, and we have already covered significant ground together. Our first collective step is a call to action: 

"Thanks for standing up for sexual assault survivors by signing our petition. We are fighting for Tara Reade because anyone who lies about sexual assault is not fit to lead the United States. There is always work to be done to create a more just world for all, and we want you to join our fight and help us get there. There are tons of ways to get involved but here are examples of what we’re looking for:

• Web designers, artists, video producers, published writers, and anyone else with a creative skill set they can envision contributing to our cause
• Journalists, trauma experts, social workers, academics, and other specialists interested in circulating petitions, writing, being interviewed in documentary films, doing interviews with the media, or otherwise getting involved
• People interested in organizing or participating in actions, online or in person
• Individuals with time to write letters to the editor

DSA membership is not a requirement to join the fight. This collaboration is open to all who believe that the democratic party has a moral imperative to stand in support of survivors of sexual violence.

On a personal note, I joined DSA in April. When Bernie Sanders suspended his campaign for the presidency, I was devastated. Joining the Democratic Socialists of America helped me feel part of a growing movement committed to the ideals I strive for at a time when I needed it most. I encourage anyone who is disturbed and disgusted by the Democratic establishment to consider joining. The exciting wins of progressive candidates this week have proven that the old ways are crumbling as new leaders step forward. Joe Biden’s nomination is the ultimate representation of the old guard of democratic leadership, which is why we continue to call on him to step aside from the nomination.
