Hi everyone, Just to bring you up to date, there will be a joint committee hearing on Monday, August 8th to address the concerns of NJCLASS borrowers featured in Annie's NYT article. After the hearing, the bill for death discharge will go before the committee. There is NO doubt in my mind this bill will be passed, which is great--but it doesn't address ALL of our CURRENT issues. My fear is that this bill will create an emerging obstacle or a mistaken impression that the legislature has begun to address the issues WE all face, which will ultimately end up undermining our demands for relief and set us back. I was invited to provide testimony at the hearing. At this time, I would ask each of you to provide me with a short email outlining the major issues you have had with HESAA and the change you would like to see. I want to put together a packet of emails from ALL of you to show the legislature that there are so many more NJCLASS borrowers that need help NOW...and because I will be providing the legislatures with this information you have to put put a statement at the end of your emails waiving your privacy rights and agreeing to this information being shared with the public. Please don't put any personal identifiers in your emails-- I need these emails no later than NOON tomorrow as I have to make 15 copies for the committee. You can email me at debnbill526@comcast.net. I would encourage all of you to attend this hearing--the more people they see, the more of a problem they know this really is. I also believe this just may be our LAST chance in effectuating any kind of change.
