I made this post six months ago, and in the last few days, I have officially decided that enough is enough. Starting on Wednesday, I started listening to my local BBC radio station. I was unsure what I'd think of it, but I was genuinely surprised by how much effort they clearly put into their local output. While it's not 24/7 local (the evening show is regionally shared with other local areas), it is MILES better than what any other radio station offers (at least that I'm aware of).

I have officially decided to gradually start a boycott against Heart and Global's other stations. This was a tough decision to make, because I've been a loyal listener for years. But I think it is the right decision to take, because audience numbers are the best way to tell these companies that we are not happy. But even if they do bring back their local output, these stations have so many other controversial annoyances (repetitive playlists etc.), that I don't ever see myself going back.

While I'm not telling you what you can and can't listen to, I want you to think about this: If we keep their listening figures up, they [Global] will never do anything about it, because as long as they get their listeners, nothing matters.

I know this has sounded like a bit of a ramble, so... sorry. But I just had a lot to say. Remember to keep spreading the word all over, and maybe, just maybe, commercial radio can finally learn something from their BBC rivals. Have a good day!
