Ward 4 Candidate John Kovac's Comment:
While I do also serve as a 'Regional Councillor', and Waste Services are handled by the Region, I am proud of the work that has gone in over the past several years to improve waste reduction in Peel. Within the first year of organics waste cart collection, the number of tonnes of organic waste collected per month increased by roughly 1,000.
There are still challenges, especially in relation to organics collection in apartments and condominiums. This remains a significant hurdle for Waste Management due to the majority of buildings having been built without a 'chute' for organics.
I would recommend that you and your group deputize to Regional Council, or at a minimum, to the Region's Waste Management Advisory Committee, during the new term of Council.
