The Lokpal of India has cancelled its tender to procure seven BMW cars worth Rs 70 lakh each, a move that had earlier resulted in criticism from activists and the opposition for chasing luxury.

The Press Trust of India reported citing officials who said on Thursday (January 1) that the anti-graft ombudsman has cancelled the tender, wherein the collective money it was earlier spending for procuring the seven luxury cars was around Rs 5 crore. According to the officials, the decision to cancel the procurement was taken after a resolution of the full Bench of the Lokpal, after which a corrigendum was issued by it dated December 16, 2025.
