Introduce compulsory deaf awareness training for all teachers

Hi everyone,
Thank you for your previous support in my campaign to achieve better deaf awareness and accessibility in the school environment during the COVID pandemic.
I am a member of the National Deaf Children's Society Youth Advisory Board, a group of 19 teenagers with hearing loss from across the UK. Together, we have decided to create a new campaign to introduce compulsory deaf awareness training for all teachers. A recent survey from the NDCS found that only 3% of teachers feel that their teacher training has given them the information they need to meet a deaf student's needs in the classroom. That is a shockingly low number when over half of teachers will have a deaf child in their classroom during their career.
Please sign our petition to encourage the Government to make sure that all teachers have compulsory deaf awareness training and regular refreshers. This will improve the access to education and school experience for many of the 35,000 deaf students in schools and colleges in the UK.
Please sign and share to spread the word!
Many thanks,
Dinah :)
