Hi everyone,

I wanted to share an incredible update with you — today, the Quewezance sisters were granted bail!

Justice Donald Layh ruled that the sisters' application for bail “wasn't frivolous, they aren't a flight risk, and don't pose a danger to the public.” Justice Layh also highlighted that James Lockyer, the sisters’ lawyer, had previously asked the Saskatchewan government to reduce their three-decades old second-degree murder convictions to manslaughter but the province had turned it down.

This nightmare has lasted over 30 years for Odelia and Nerissa, separated from their families and community for a crime they didn’t commit. Their journey is far from over but this is a major step in the sisters finally getting the justice they deserve.

The support of 62,000 petition signers from across Canada has undoubtedly played a role in making it clear to the Saskatchewan justice system that it’s far past time they free the sisters. Together, we’ve made it clear that people care about the sisters and are paying attention. Thank you so much for your support.

I’ll keep you posted with more information on their release and what comes next.

In solidarity,

Nicole
