Thanks to your support, the Australian Long Weekend petition has now passed 36,000 signatures and it’s growing fast. Every name added shows Australia is ready for a better, more inclusive way to mark our national day.
And people are paying attention.
This past week, we presented the results of our independent national YouGov polling showing 54% of Australians support a move of the Australia Day public holiday to the second-last Monday in January on ABC News Breakfast, Channel 9, and Channel 10.
These media moments are helping shift the conversation from “should we change the date?” to “what’s the better alternative?”
We know January 26 isn’t a date to celebrate. And this year, we’re encouraging everyone to take care and if you’ve got the space, start a conversation.
