CIVIL BEAT'S HEADLINE MAKES IT SOUND LIKE IT'S CHRIS SALEM WHO IS COSTING THE TAXPAYERS MONEY WHEN REALLY CORPORATION COUNSEL IS TO BLAME.
The headline that Civil Beat's editors intentionally changed for this story is completely misleading to the content that Paula Dobbyn wrote.
More accurate is "Maui Council Approves Nearly Half a Million to Fight Whistleblower" Civil Beat's editors absolutely insult everyone who puts themselves at risk by blowing the whistle on County corruption.
The deal I helped cut with Mike Victorino to hire Chris Salem specifically included releasing the County from all financial liability by enforcing existing County laws to hold the Developers financially responsible.
The County Lawyers killed that deal and blocked Mike from doing what he knew was right because it would expose their own involvement with private developers to defraud the public.
Corporation Counsel caused this litigation and is responsible for the costs to taxpayers, not Chris Salem.
We demand that Civil Beat retract their grossly misleading headline and print a follow-up to correct the damage they have furthered to Chris Salem and his family.
