Newcastle Great Park Consortium wants to fell trees and install street lights inside and around Havannah Nature Reserve.

The reserve has already been hemmed in by residential development. We will not stand by while the reserve is carved up by greedy developers.

More than 1,300 people have signed a petition against the plans.

Please sign the petition and share widely https://shorturl.at/29N1t

More importantly, please object to Newcastle City Council directly by emailing planning.control@newcastle.gov.uk quoting planning reference 2022/1131/01/DET.

Some points to include in your objection:

  • Removal of trees and woodland within a Local Nature Reserve
  • Installation of street lights within a Local Nature Reserve, which will have an adverse impact on protected species in and around the reserve
  • Removal of scrub, trees and hedgerow to make way for construction
  • Further severance of the Ouseburn Wildlife enhancement corridor
  • More development and structures that will harm the openness of the Green Belt
  • More hard surfaces that will increase flood risk
  • Serious safety issues for children using the routes that do not actually connect Newcastle Great Park to Hazlerigg
  • Loss of habitat for the nationally scarce Alder Signal moth
