This has been a huge week for Jesse! He learned how to get in and out of the passenger side of both Laura's car and his truck using a belt rigged by the PT (see picture) lifting his body using his arm and chest. With this new accomplishment he has been able to take field trips first through a drive thru for some take out and then to Oregon Original Roadhouse for dinner. He also took a trip to the VA to look at the equipment he would need to transition home. He really wanted an electric chair so that he could go places without having to rely on others to drive him and push him around. With an electric wheel chair he could even take public transportation and go places by himself. Well... as expected, that is not something the VA would approve. However, Matt Havniear with Team Overland paid Jesse a visit and yet again the blessings continue to flow! Matt tells Jesse that he has a friend with the county bus system (rvtd) and that they sometimes have electric wheel chairs available. The next day Dave from RVTD calls Laura to tell her they have a very nice electric wheelchair that will be dropped off at her house that same morning! Can you believe it?!?! If that's not enough to bring tears to your eyes, Laura's brother-in-law is building a beautiful ramp for Jesse to access his front door! He is doing such an amazing job! Then, I find out that he brought $600 worth of wood from Lowes, but spent nowhere near that much thanks to an extremely generous 60% discount provided by the store manager!!! With all of these things falling in place this week, Jesse is expected to be discharged and on his way home Monday!!!!
