"For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear."
I'm startled by the response to our petition calling the administration and regents of Concordia University Wisconsin to repentice for suspending Dr. Gregory Schulz for sounding the alarm about the school's search for a leftist president. In one day, we received over 2,000 signatures. The administration's response will determine whether CUW will continue as a Christian alternative to run-of-the-mill college wokeness, or crumble from diminished applications and donations.
Bad choices lead to bad consequences. I hope CUW's administration makes a good decision and that the university thrives.
But Interim President William Cario's response tells us he's spiritually blind and deaf. According to him, the problem isn't that the school fired Dr. Schulz, or that the administration is swapping confessional Christianity for critical theory. No, the problem is the divisiveness caused by those who call the regents and administrators to account.
What's missing from his response? Christ. He and his teachings have no place in this response, even though Dr. Schulz and and the petition makes it clear that it's not acceptable for an LCMS university to turn away from Him.
Please pray that God will open President Cario's eyes and ears.
