Many citizens have noted concerns about the survey the City is hosting. Several have communicated these concerns. The City has separated data from the respondents through about 2/1/2016 due to the fact that a user could easily take the survey repeatedly. As of 2/4, they made a change to the rating scale that a citizen opposing pointed out to them. Prior to 2/4 is was Very Supportive to Unsupportive. Prior to the change (meaning data from 2/1-2/4), it was Very Supportive to Unsupportive which carries a bias in favor. (Changing response scales in the middle of a survey would normally nullify results from an entire survey). Attempts were made to address the resubmission issues. It now requires email and name. This doesn't fix the problem. Respondents who have multiple email addresses (most do) can take it multiple times or easily create as many fake gmail accounts as they want and take it. And, we still have the bigger issue of not being a random, balanced sample. These enormous holes in sampling don't seem to bother the City as they say it isn't a vote but merely data to inform decision makers. Lastly, the survey makes no attempt to understand the people's preference regarding their desire to exclude pieces of the deal, (i.e. Strawberry Fields). Or, to achieve goals a different way. The survey only attempts to answer if a respondent supports the land swap and, if not, what more needs to be done to make a respondent like it. As unreliable as it is, they are doing it and plan to use it with decision makers. So, everyone needs to take it. And, if you took it before 2/4/2016, when the new scale was implemented on Question 1, go back and take it again to make sure your voice is heard. If you run into problems taking it, you may need to clear your cookies as the old data will populate fields. As always, ask your own questions. Share your concerns. Be heard.
