Celebrating Lap Swimming, Upcoming Specials, & Welcoming Everyone to the All Comers Swim Meet

The long wait for the opening of the new Veterans Memorial Pool is finally over and swimmers of all ages, abilities, and walks of life have been enjoying the pool since the “First In” opening on August 2nd.  The City and Community Campaign want to get the word out to come enjoy the pool and some of its unique features, so they are offering some special activities, hours, and opportunities to the public:

Tuesday, August 20th  at 4:30pm (sign-up) & 5:30pm (event starts) – “All Comers” La Crosse End of Summer Swim Meet (raindate Wed, Aug 21st):

Wanna race, swim in a fun relay, or show off your best cannonball?   Are you a competitive swimmer, summer league swimmer, triathlete or interested in a little friendly competition?  The Veterans Memorial Pool Campaign, in cooperation with the YMCA WAVE swim team, welcomes “all comers” to La Crosse’s NEW Veterans Memorial Pool, in celebration of the return of lane swimming and the end of summer!

Dive in to test your skills and try swimming a length or two for fun.  You can even use a flotation device, compete in a cannonball contest, or join an inner tube relay with your family or friends.  Families and all ages, abilities and experience levels are welcome for this meet.

Join an event or just come to cheer on others and help make the event a success for all spectators, swimmers, and competitors!  Registering is appreciated in advance, but not required, either by filling out meet entry cards at Veterans Memorial Pool (1 per event) or selecting event tickets through the Facebook event page, Eventbrite, or by emailing the meet organizer at jserrano@laxymca.org.

Extended Season, Hours, & Offers:

We are happy to announce that to make up for a later than expected opening and future desire to have an additional earlier and later pool season in the future, Veterans Memorial Pool will remain open till the end of August!  More lane swimming hours will also be added and finalized to begin August 19th, so stay tuned by following on Facebook or calling the VMP hotline at 608-791-8919.  Be reminded that all veterans and their immediate family always swim for free at VMP.  Also, four upcoming days will be selected to be FREE to the public so watch and listen for the announcements.

$40,000 Matching Challenge Gift Update:

Remember, individuals, organizations, and businesses still have the unique opportunity for their contribution to be worth twice as much because a $40,000 challenge matching gift has been pledged that would put the community campaign over its $500,000 goal!  The campaign appreciates the recent gifts totaling over $15,000 leaving approximately $25,000 to go.  All contributions can be named in honor of a Veteran or loved one and gifts over $1,000 will appear on the Community Wall of Support that will be dedicated in the Spring of 2020 for many generations to enjoy.  Donation information here:  https://memorialpool.org/donate/
